Erice is a tourist
medieval village with about 29000 inhabitants, overhanging Trapani of
750 meters on the Eryx mount.
Erice was since antiquity an important center of the worship returned
to the goddess of fruitfulness, initially as Astarté phenician,
then Greek Aphrodite and finally as a Roman Venus.
The city was a long time a spiritual center, with many churches,
temples and convents. At the top of the mountain, are the remainders of
the Venus castle built in XIIth by the Norman ones with the site of an
old temple dedicated to Venus.
